An Emergency Room New Graduate RN

I finally got a job after 5 months of searching in an amazing ER in a big city. It's crazy and always busy and exactly what I wanted in a job. I've decided to start blogging about the patient I see and experiences I have to really remember what started my career. There will be no identifying information as to keep HIPPA in mind :) I won't even tell you where I am working to keep it all legal. Enjoy!

“I think you’ve waited on me before.”

Excuse me, I’ve never been a waitress, and this is not a restaurant. I am a nurse, this is an emergency room, and I have CARED for you before. I did not spend 4 years in school, over $30,000, and take the worst standardized test in the world to “wait on you.”

Sometimes all I want to tell patient’s who tell me, “I haven’t eaten all day. Can I get something to eat?” is, “Well, let me do some compressions on this dying patient and give him life-saving medications first hoping he lives, and then I will go and get you your precious sandwich since you haven’t eaten ALL DAY!”
