An Emergency Room New Graduate RN

I finally got a job after 5 months of searching in an amazing ER in a big city. It's crazy and always busy and exactly what I wanted in a job. I've decided to start blogging about the patient I see and experiences I have to really remember what started my career. There will be no identifying information as to keep HIPPA in mind :) I won't even tell you where I am working to keep it all legal. Enjoy!

Vaccinations have been a controversial topic in the natural health world for a long time and they’ve recently been under a lot of mainstream scrutiny as well.
Vaccinating children every year is a billion dollar annual business for the pharmaceutical companies.
Do they really help or do they do more harm than good?
Here’s what my wife and I did…Read More

Sorry but again people with no scientific or medical credentials are trying to assert that vaccination causes autism( pure pseudoscience). No link between autism and vaccination has been found. Time and time again the agenda and fraud of these groups have been uncovered click here for example. Vaccines are one of the greatest achievements in the history of science and being skeptical without having any scientific evidence whatsoever is plain irrational and moreover dangerous.

I think some people fail to realize that a claim of skepticism is a claim nonetheless which requires evidence and support to be considered and accepted. You may have a strong claim of skepticism or you may have a weak one, as is the case here.

I disagree. One can argue skepticism based on lack of awareness of evidence.

My only response to beliefs like this (which I’m saying is wrong) is to recommend that they do research on how many of the diseases have been made almost non-existent since the development of vaccines. Vaccines are the reason mumps and rubella aren’t common childhood diseases. Chicken pox can be very fatal to some, hopefully your children are not the some. This goes for many of the other vaccines. Yes, this does give someone profits. No, it is not a government conspiracy to take everyone’s money. It is to keep people healthy and living longer.
Children these days are developing (or rather being diagnosed more often) with diabetes, asthma, and autism for many other reasons.
The idea of choosing your own schedule may be helpful. I don’t recommend questioning all the shots babies get a birth. And don’t come crying back to your doctor when your child gets measles. Obviously everyone can make their own decisions, just stand by them.
I have been fully vaccinated as a child and kept up with vaccines as an adult including yearly flu vaccines. I’m just fine. I have never gotten the flu. Please remember most people don’t know what the flu truly is and kind of throw that word around. No one cares if I get the flu as with many healthy adults. I would most likely recover quickly or not even have symptoms. I can, however, pass the flu to someone who could become very sick. That’s why I get the flu vaccine, and why others should too. No, it is not perfect, but it does save lives as do other vaccines. Come on pro-lifers!! (Haha, that was a funny joke ;))

Family wedding!

My brother is getting married this Saturday!! I am so FREAKING excited!

I’m picking up my dress today after the final alterations :D So I get to try it on with my shoes and everything!

This is going to be the best wedding ever :D:D:D:D:D:D

Parks and Recreation

SO FREAKING FUNNY!!

A patient’s thank you.

One of my patient’s said thank you to me for treating her like a human being rather than treating her like any other patient.

I thank her for treating me like a human being rather than just a nurse.

This particular patient will be getting a double mastectomy June 3rd in the hopes of getting rid of all the cancer she has been battling for years. Keep that date in your thoughts please. She can use all the positive thoughts she can get :D

My nursing notes.: Welcome to the hotel. →

nursling:

There are many nights when being a nurse in the the hospital (especially a hospital fancy like mine) feels like working as a hotel employee. Rather than saying, “My name is Lisa, and I will be the nurse taking care of taking care of you tonight.” A much more fitting opening would be “Welcome to…

Amen! Some days when patients ask for food, I would love to say that I didn’t go to school for four years to serve you, so I’m going to go back to being a nurse.

Alright Milwaukee!

I walked around my car yesterday and notice a BUNCH of door-ding dents!

Seriously, I have the smallest car ever, and you have to slam your door against mine?! Screw you Milwaukee! I will be door-dinging the CRAP out of every car parked next to me. EVERY SINGLE CAR! Since no one here has any respect for anyone else, why should I?!

So I had a funny dream last night,

because I woke myself up giggling.

Not laughing.

Giggling.

I really wish I remembered my dream.

Be OK: What we are doing when we celebrate Osama's death →

Like many, I’ve been struggling with how to react to the news of Osama Bin Laden’s death last night.

As someone who lived only 5 train stops north of the World Trade Center during 9/11 I’ve always felt a strong connection to what happened. I lived and worked…

Amen. It is never a good thing to celebrate death. Let’s celebrate a mission accomplished. It’s great that they found him. It’s sad that the only way to capture him was to kill him.

That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!

I say we start a brown bag movement. Walker would seem to support it, no?
